Longtime IHRA friend and racing icon Ken Nelson is currently recovering in a Sandusky, Ohio hospital following a surgery to repair tissue in Nelsons chest after having a lung removed due to cancer earlier this year.
Nelson, known around the world as the driver of the “Cool Bus” wheelstanding school bus and a longtime icon in the sport of drag racing, has gained quite a following over the years traveling the country to the delight of fans. Nelson is best known as a master showman, piloting his replica school bus down the quarter-mile on only its rear tires with sparks and fireworks lighting up the night sky.
The IHRA would like to wish Ken a speedy recovery and send its best wishes to wife Anita. Nelson remains in intensive care and hopes to return home in early December. Cards and letters can be sent to Ken and Anita at 313 State Route 60, Greenwich, OH 44837.
