It was a wild and wacky opening day at the Mopar Nitro Jam Nationals on Saturday at the Grand Bend Motorplex, the most spectacular of which came in the form of a horrifying crash by Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car driver Mike “McAttack” McIntire.
During round one of Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car Saturday at “The Bend” McIntire launched hard off the line during a run against John Dunn before making an abrupt left hand turn and slamming hard into the outside retaining wall. The impact sent the car several feet into the air as he surfed the top of the wall for a moment before slamming back to earth.
When the car returned to the track the force of the impact caused McIntire to tap the gas once again as the car zoomed a few hundred more feet before shutting off a little past half track.
At the top end McIntire was checked out and released.
McIntire’s crash was one of several spectacular moments from Saturday’s opening round action at the Mopar Nitro Jam Nationals. More incredible nitro racing will take place Sunday at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
