Racers from all corners of the country lined up for miles in anticipation of one of the largest drag racing events in Louisiana history

A record number of race rigs rolled into State Capitol Raceway Friday morning for what is expected to be the largest IHRA race ever held at the Louisiana facility which gets underway this Saturday and Sunday.

Perfect weather plus an abundance of food, fun and beads has already attracted a massive amount of cars and with ticket sales at an all-time high, the 2011 Mardi Gras Nitro Jam is on pace to be one of the biggest drag racing events in Louisiana history.

Racing gets underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday with FanFest beginning at 3:30 p.m. and two rounds of Nitro Jam starting at 5 p.m. The action will continue on Sunday with sportsman eliminations at 9 a.m. followed by FanFest at 11:30 a.m. and Nitro Jam at 1 p.m.
