Known for its lavish parties and incredible racing, the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam at State Capitol Raceway is quickly becoming one of the most unique stops on the Nitro Jam tour.

Debuting in 2009, the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam features beads, floats, fast cars, more beads, incredible racing, spectacular attractions and lots and lots of beads, but more than anything the biggest drag race in Louisiana is all about fun and that is what sets the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam apart and makes it a must-attend event each season.

And this year, the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam will have even more of what nitro-junkies crave as the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam brings in five nitro classes in addition to a huge finale featuring the world’s fastest monster truck “Maximum Overkill” taking on the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi.

“The Mardi Gras Nitro Jam is always a highlight on the Nitro Jam schedule. Lanny and Valerie Lewis at State Capitol Raceway really know how to put on a show and have a good time,” said Aaron Polburn, Nitro Jam President. “The event in Baton Rouge is one big nitro party and this year that fact is going to prove even more true as we bring in two new nitro classes to make this the largest Nitro Jam ever held in the state of Louisiana.”

Top Fuel Dragsters - Bobby Lagana vs. Bruce Litton

Headlining the 2011 version of the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam is five nitro-powered classes lead by the Kings of the Sport – 320 mile per hour Top Fuel Dragsters. This year the Top Fuel showdown will be more intense than ever as it features the battle of the world champions between defending Top Fuel champion Bobby Lagana Jr. and 2007 champion Bruce Litton.

At the season opener in West Palm Beach, Fla. Lagana got his 2011 campaign off to a great start with a weekend sweep of the fastest class in drag racing.

Also returning this season are the only 100 percent nitro-powered dragsters in the world in Pro Fuel and the exciting Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car class which exploded in popularity in 2010. This year’s Mardi Gras Nitro Jam will also feature two new classes as Nitro Jam is proud to welcome the insane riders of the 220 mile per hour Nitro Harley class and out-of-control Fuel Altereds.

As if five nitro classes weren’t enough, the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam will also welcome a field of eight of the baddest Outlaw Prod Mods in the south competing for the title of Pro Mod King of Louisiana.

Topping the two-day event will be one of the fastest jet dragsters in the world and of course the most exciting addition to the Nitro Jam lineup in years – the Battle of the Monster Trucks between “Maximum Overkill” and Shockwave.

Both trucks are at the top of their game when it comes to putting on a show for the fans as the Super Shockwave literally shakes the earth with each pass as it erupts into massive flames and rockets down the quarter-mile at speeds well over 200 miles per hour.

And the Super Shockwave’s opponent at the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam will be another machine known for its incredible speed and size as the monster truck world speed record holder “Maximum Overkill” brings its oversized Ford body to the fastest track in the south to once again push the limits and try to topple its own record.

And of course no Mardi Gras Nitro Jam would be complete without the parties.

Before the show, fans can visit the pits and take part in numerous activities and meet your favorite Nitro Jam stars during FanFest and also witness the most amazing spectacle in motorsports today – the Nitro Earthquake. To signal the start of FanFest, all five nitro classes will warm up at the same time creating a sensory overload that will literally shake the earth.

And throughout FanFest fans can participate in dozens of Mardi Gras activities that include a parade with plenty of beads before the start of the biggest Nitro Jam of the year Saturday and Sunday at State Capitol Raceway.

And if you are still looking for more action the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam also features two full days of incredible sportsman racing featuring the International Hot Rod Association’s seven premier classes competing for IHRA gold and a spot at the year-end Summit Racing Tournament of Champions.

Last year the racing was so intense that the end result had to be placed in the back of a truck as one of the drivers in the popular Top Dragster division went for the ride of his life all in the name of victory. And that was just one of the moments making up the most exciting Nitro Jam of the year.

Don’t miss the biggest nitro party in the country as Nitro Jam returns to State Capitol Raceway February 19-20 for the Mardi Gras Nitro Jam.
